Judson “Kim” Bemis, Jr.
Judson Bemis has over 30 years of experience in entrepreneurial and management roles across several business sectors, most recently in addiction and behavioral health. His passion for, and recent engagement in, the field led to his founding of Clere Consulting with Doug Lyons and Sam Dresser. Prior to Clere Consulting, Judson served as Vice President of New Business Development at the Hazelden Foundation, where he led its exploration of online business opportunities. Earlier in his career at the Hazelden Foundation, he was National Director of Development. In 2009, he co-founded Now Feel Free, a non-profit entity focusing on online recovery.
Judson established an impressive track record in business before pursuing his long-held interest in helping others through the prism of recovery. In 1992, Judson purchased the telemarketing firm, Outsell, Inc., and developed it into an industry leader in lead generation, qualification and appointment setting, working with clients such as Computer Science Corporation, Cray Research, Hitachi, Honeywell, NCS and Tandem. In 1998, with the advent of the Internet, he led the creation of an online chat application that emerged into an effective selling tool to auto dealers nationwide. Based on this application, he created and launched an artificial intelligence text recognition product in 2001. In 1985, after eight years as an actor in New York City, where he appeared in commercials and soap operas as well as Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, Judson joined his family’s organization, Bemis Company, Inc., as a sales and marketing manager. Judson has extensive governance background, serving on the for-profit boards of Imaging Institute, Inc., Technology, Inc. and Outsell Inc., as well as the non-profit boards of Lake Country School, MacPhail Center for Music, where he chaired a successful $25 million campaign, the Minnesota State Arts Board (Governor’s appointment), The Guthrie Theater Foundation, The Minnesota Orchestral Association, The Playwrights Center, Theatre Communications Group (NY) and Theatre de la Jeune Lune.
