Bill to help opioid-exposed babies heads to President Barack Obama’s desk

“U.S. Rep. Katherine Clark, D-Melrose, who sponsored the so-called ‘Protecting Our Infants Act,’ said the bill seeks to create uniformity in how babies born with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome are treated, as well as how data on these births is tracked. Currently, she said, there’s not a single Food and Drug Administration-approved method for treating opioid-exposed newborns, leaving doctors to do the best they can to try and apply adult treatments to infants.”
