Minnesota legislators in the House and Senate passed the Health Omnibus bill on May 18th. The bill includes $290,000 to educate/train our first responders about Steve’s Law … to educate them on the components of the law and on how to administer naloxone. The funds will also be used for purchasing the life-saving drug naloxone. The bill is now on its way to Governor Dayton for his signature. The Foundation worked hard for the passage of this legislation, and it will save lives!

We are very grateful for the support of Senator Chris Eaton (and her Legislative Assistant, David Gross) and Representative Dave Baker (and his Legislative Assistant, Bethany Dorobiala) who are the Chief Authors of this legislation.  They both worked tirelessly over many months to ensure the inclusion of this funding in the Health Omnibus bill.  We’d also like to thank the Foundation’s Overdose Prevention Program Medical Director, Dr. Paul Satterlee, for his testimony in numerous House and Senate Committee hearings.  His expert testimony was pivotal for the inclusion of these funds in this bill. So many volunteers also spent time at the Capitol as Citizen Lobbyists engaging every legislator to explain the importance of the lifesaving provisions of Steve’s Law.  We are filled with gratitude for the countless hours spent by Michon Jenkin, Julie Hooker, Janie Colford, Star Selleck, Jen Nordeen and others.
