The Steve Rummler HOPE Network in partnership with Rotary District 5950 has created this course to educate communities about opioids and encourage civic and community engagement. The worst American public health crisis of our time, the opioid crisis has devastating impacts on our state and nation.
The number of deaths has now surpassed those at the height of the AIDS epidemic. In 2016 the number of individuals who died as a result of the opioid crisis surpassed the number of casualties from the entire two decades of the Vietnam war. Every three weeks, we lose the same number of individuals to the opioid crisis as we did from the September 11 terrorist attacks.
We hope the content in this course heightens awareness of the disease of addiction and the larger scope of the issue beyond the tragedies of overdose deaths. We invite you to start a discussion in your community and to inspire others to get involved.
In addition to the course content, we’ve provided you with tools and resources for you to utilize as a guide and begin planning initiatives for your area or organization. Thank you for leading the fight to end the crisis of opioid addiction and overdose deaths.
