The DEA has reduced the amount of Opioid and Opiate production for 2017

The United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has reduced the amount of class II opioid and opiate medications that may be manufactured in 2017. According to a Final Order, the production of these drugs will be decreased by 25 percent next year.

According to the Aggregate Production Quota (APQ), which is the amount of controlled substances necessary to meet the estimated scientific, medical, research, industrial and export needs, there will be a reduction in oxycodone, hydrocodone, fentanyl, hydromorphone, morphine and others.

Data from the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) found 6.5 million Americans over the age of 12 used controlled prescriptions nonmedically during the past month. For years, the DEA, Steve Rummler Hope Foundation, and others have been education prescribers and the public about the potential dangers of opioid medications.
