Foundation Chairman, Bill Rummler, and President, Judy Rummler, attended the National Prescription Drug Abuse Summit in Orlando, Florida, on April 2-4. The Foundation shared a booth with partner organizations PROP (Physicians for Responsible Prescribing) and ARPO (Advocates for the Reform of Prescription Opioids).
One highlight of the conference was the meeting that Bill and Judy had with FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg (above right). They were able to tell her Steve’s tragic story of chronic pain, prescription opioids, addiction and overdose death. The Commissioner listened as they explained the need for the FDA to take action to end the over prescribing of opioids.
Other hightlights were speeches by Dr. Thomas Frieden (Director of the CDC), Dr. Nora Volkow (Director of NIDA), Congressman Hal Rogers, and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The Summit was organized by Operation UNITE.
