Education

Changing Hearts and Minds

The Steve Rummler HOPE Network develops educational content on a wide range of topics related to substance use disorders, harm reduction, chronic pain, and the opioid crisis.

Providing this information is vital to shifting public understanding on these issues, and can help to break down stigma, build awareness of available resources, and empower individuals to advocate for themselves and loved ones.

Community

It is important to the Steve Rummler HOPE Network that our community is a safe and empowering place for all people. The goals of our community education content are to empower community members, break down stigma, foster meaningful conversations, promote safety, spread awareness, present unbiased information, and provide hope.

The topics covered in our materials range from substance use disorders, harm reduction, chronic pain, the opioid crisis, and more!

We believe that all public institutions should adopt commonsense naloxone policies. For strategy, guidance, and templates, explore our policy toolkits below!

Pathways to Recovery Microsite

Steve Rummler HOPE Network has built a microsite, called Pathways to Recovery, which launched in 2022. Hosted on our website, this collection of webpages offer critical information for anyone looking to learn more about:

We recognize that many resources on recovery continue to be hard to access and understand. The goal of our Pathways to Recovery site is to make finding and learning about these topics easier for all.

Medical Professionals

We recognize the pivotal role of physicians, APPs (advanced practice providers), medical students, pharmacists and nurses in curbing this public health crisis. This includes maintaining a high quality of care for those impacted by substance use disorder, effective pain management strategies, and a focus on individualized care, wellness and best evidence-based practices.

We work to support medical professionals and health care systems through training and educational curriculum to ensure that prescribers and other health care providers have access to the information they need to be partners in the fight against the opioid crisis.

Nursing Course

Steve Rummler HOPE Network and Bethel University present a comprehensive curriculum regarding Opioid Use Disorder for nurses and nursing students. This 3 hour course, titled “Opioid Use Disorder Care: The Nursing Perspective,” provides an in-depth education into the identification, assessment, management and support of patients with OUD. This is a fully-on demand curriculum, designed to be completed at your own pace. In addition to the video content, participants will engage with the material using case studies and assessments based upon individual modules.

This course has been designed to meet the Minnesota Board of Nursing continuing education requirements and fulfills a total of 3 contact hours. However, the nurse is responsible for determining whether this activity meets the requirements for acceptable continuing education.

To access the course:

  • Login to your SRHN account, or create an individual account. (Note: the account must be an individual account, not an organization account).
  • Once in your user portal, select “Redeem a Voucher” in the side navigation menu.
  • Enter the following code (case sensitive): Nursing
  • The course will now be accessible under the “My Courses” tab in your portal homepage!

Prescribers and Naloxone

Every pharmacy in Minnesota should carry and dispense naloxone, under the guidance provided by the state Board of Pharmacy. Pharmacists who need a licensed practitioner also have the option of entering into the Board of Pharmacy’s Opiate Antagonist Protocol with the Minnesota Department of Health’s Medical Director, Ruth Lynfield, MD.
