The founders of the Steve Rummler Hope Foundation, Bill and Judy Rummler, spoke last Wednesday, October 5 at the Minneapolis City of Lakes Rotary Club. The presentation informed approximately 80 participants about the dilemma of chronic pain and the disease of addiction.

At this particular event, Judy and Bill Rummler discussed the history and current situation of an America in the midst of an opioid epidemic fueled by the overprescribing of painkillers. A strong theme of hope was emphasized as the founders provided insights into how we can finally bring the crisis to an end.

The Foundation’s Rotary-funded video of Steve’s story and his struggle with chronic pain and addiction was shown.  Information was presented about the Foundation’s efforts to change the stigma associated with addiction and about the Foundation’s programs for advocacy, prescriber education and overdose prevention. An explanation of Steve’s Law, which was passed by the Minnesota Legislature in 2014 and continues to save lives every day, demonstrated that change is possible.
