Our Executive Director, Alicia House, appeared on WCCO 4 on August 31st, 2021 to talk about Overdose Awareness Day and the impacts of COVID-19 on overdose rates.

KSTP’s interview covered the efforts of SRHN and Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge, along with the personal story of a brother and sister in recovery. The story covered the increased number of overdose deaths in Minnesota during 2020. House mentioned isolation from the pandemic being a huge issue.

House said pandemic isolation shut individuals “off from people, [they were] no longer being able to operate by going to groups, or reaching out for help and being to see loved ones. I think seclusion was probably a huge factor in potential overdose rates heightening.”
