Rochester organization host lessons on saving lives from opioid OD
Our Overdose Prevention Manager, Maddy Reagan, was featured in the Rochester Post-Bulletin on July 1, 2022. After hosting two Overdose Response trainings in Rochester on June 30 (in partnership with Rochester Community Initiative, Recovery is Happening, and Diversity Council of Rochester), Maddy spoke with reporter Abby Sharpe about the importance of naloxone as a common sense public health tool:
“Any member of the community can benefit from carrying naloxone….You never know. Even just being at a grocery store, you could encounter someone experiencing an overdose and could be that person that could save that person’s life.”
The article also discusses overdose disparities experienced by communities of color (most notably Native American, African American and East African communities). The Diversity Council emphasizes the need to educate the community on the stigma of overdose deaths attached to communities of color, and raise awareness about available resources, such as naloxone.
