See the Twin Cities Light Up Purple for Overdose Awareness Day!

August 18, 2022 By: Marissa Wolff

August 31st has been recognized as International Overdose Awareness Day, a global event to raise awareness that overdose death is preventable and to reduce the stigma associated with drug-related death. Each year, the Steve Rummler HOPE Network brings awareness to this ongoing crisis by lighting up the Twin Cities purple — the awareness color for drug overdose and the opioid crisis — on Overdose Awareness Day.

So far the following buildings have committed to lighting up purple:

  • The Capella Tower
  • The IDS Center
  • The I-35W Bridge
  • The Lowry Bridge
  • US Bank Stadium
  • Allianz Field

We’re continuing to gather support and reach out to businesses, state departments, and city and state government to meet our goal of seeing every major bridge, building, and landmark in the Twin Cities show support of International Overdose Awareness Day. If you know of any other buildings that can light up or know someone who can help our cause, please contact Alicia House at ahouse@rummlerhope.org

We also encourage all to join us in showing your support at your home or business by wearing and lighting up purple!

You can also show your support on social media with the hashtags #IOAD #IOAD2022 #EndOverdose and #OverdoseAwareness
