SRHN Staff & Volunteers on WCCO

September 22, 2023 By: Marissa Wolff

WCCO recently interviewed Maddy Reagan, our Overdose Prevention Director, as well as Mark and Brenda Wiger, dedicated SRHN volunteers. The story covers how fentanyl test strips (FTS) can detect the presence of fentanyl and save lives by preventing accidental overdose. While the article mentions a cost associated with FTS, SRHN and our NAP partners always offer fentanyl test strips at no cost.

In the story, Maddy highlighted the transformative impact these strips can have, with 91% of respondents reporting a change in behavior, including disposing of the drugs or adopting safer strategies like never using alone and carrying naloxone.

Under Maddy’s guidance, SRHN has already distributed over 90,000 fentanyl test strips in 2023, marking a record-breaking year for our ODP program. In this year alone, SRHN has achieved the following milestones:
💜 Trained over 10,000 people to identify and reverse an opioid overdose with naloxone
💜 Hosted over 400 trainings
💜 Distributed over 34,000 kits (naloxone & FTS)
