Fentanyl Awareness Day 2024

May 7, 2024 By: SRHN

As we commemorate Fentanyl Awareness Day on May 7th, 2024, we acknowledge the pivotal role that awareness plays in the fight against this deadly epidemic.

Last year the Steve Rummler HOPE Network launched a year-long fentanyl awareness campaign in collaboration with the Minnesota Department of Human Services. This initiative seeks to shine a light on the prevalence and perils of fentanyl, while providing essential tools for overdose prevention, such as fentanyl test strips and naloxone.

The urgency of this campaign is clear: illicit fentanyl is the leading cause of drug overdose nationwide. In Minnesota, nearly two-thirds of overdose deaths involve synthetic opioids like fentanyl. These casualties are more likely to occur when individuals are unaware of the risks posed by opioid exposure, as fentanyl is used to lace substances sold as stimulants, counterfeit medications, and more.

SRHN’s campaign is shaped by the core premise: “If You’re Going to Use, Know.” It is critical that people are able to make informed choices for their health and safety.

Our campaign materials have reached audiences through billboards, transit ads, college campuses, bars, restaurants, social media platforms, and local events. Every touchpoint directs individuals to the campaign’s digital hub, fentfacts.com, where they can learn more and access life-saving resources.

On this Fentanyl Awareness Day, let’s empower ourselves with knowledge; because when it comes to fentanyl, what you know could save your life.
