A Success at the FDA

Foundation Vice President Lexi Reed Holtum attended the January 24-25 meeting of the FDA Drug Safety and Risk Management Advisory Committee.  She spoke on behalf of the Foundation and read comments from Foundation President Judy Rummler (read Judy’s comments) about the need to correct the misclassification of hydrocodone combination products (like Vicodin).  Dr. Andrew Kolodny of the Foundation’s Medical Advisory Committee spoke eloquently and convincingly of the need for this change.  The committee voted 19 to 10 to recommend rescheduling; however, the FDA does not always follow the recommendations of its committees.  Please read the articles posted on our website for more information on this issue.
