Fatal overdose deaths in Eyota prompts more safety in our communities
Our Executive Director, Alicia House, appeared on ABC 6 News on January 21st, 2022 to talk about the importance of lay persons using naloxone in an emergency.
ABC 6 News covered a tragic story of 3 men overdosing over the weekend in Eyota, near Rochester, MN. All 3 men were given naloxone, but only one responded and survived. Mackenzie Davis, with ABC 6 News stated that “fatal overdose incidents like this are prompting more safety in our communities with more education and the use of Narcan.”
House stated that “It’s obviously extremely important that EMS and law enforcement have these tools but realistically, saturation [of naloxone in] all populations is really what’s going to make the difference.” House also mentioned other harm reduction strategies such as the use of fentanyl test strips.
