So Far in 2022, SRHN Trains Over 3,000 People to Reverse an Opioid Overdose!

With our most recent training on July 26th, the Steve Rummler HOPE Network surpassed 3,000 people trained to administer naloxone through our Overdose Response Trainings! This would not be possible without our powerful network of community naloxone trainers, Naloxone Access Points, organization partners, and our Overdose Prevention Manager, Maddy. Minnesotans all across the state are learning the history of the opioid crisis, how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose, and how to administer the live saving medication naloxone. In 2021, we trained 1,904 individuals and it is such a great accomplishment to have trained over 3,000 people so far in 2022.
With the rising number of opioid overdose deaths, it is all the more important that members of our community are trained on the use of naloxone. The Minnesota Department of Health released preliminary data from 2021 showing a 35% increase in the total number of overdose deaths involving opioids since 2020, with 90% of them involving fentanyl. Fentanyl is a highly potent synthetic opioid, a dose as small as a few grains of sand can be lethal.
Although it can seem overwhelming at times, as a network we remain hopeful because we know that naloxone can save lives. Training and distributing naloxone and fentanyl test strips within our community is a powerful and necessary tool for keeping us all safe. We are so thankful for everyone that has been trained so far, you are making a difference!
We are so excited to continue hosting Overdose Response Trainings throughout the rest of the year. If you’d like to be trained on the use of naloxone and receive a free kit, check our online training calendar or see below for a highlight of our upcoming trainings.
