Citing heroin overdoses, Twin Cities nonprofit offering antidote kits, training

“’We are volunteer-run by those who have lost people they love, lost children to overdoses; there won’t be any stigma or judgment,’ said Holtum, whose fiance, Steve Rummler of Eden Prairie, died of a heroin overdose in 2011. Rummler became addicted to opiates after hurting his back. His story helped inspire the Minnesota Legislature last year to enact ‘Steve’s Law,’ which protects 911 callers from drug prosecution even if they’re suffering an overdose. It also made naloxone more widely available to first responders and others.”
