New Naloxone Access Point Opens at Grace Christian Church in Albert Lea

October 1, 2022 By: SRHN

In an effort to prevent further overdose deaths in the community, a new effort has started in Albert Lea designating Grace Christian Church as a Naloxone Access Point (NAP). The Albert Lea Tribune published an article on September 22, 2022 highlighting this new NAP and informing the community how to get a naloxone kit.

The NAP, at 501 W. College St., will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Fridays. The Tribune article mentions that people will enter through the white door on the side of the church on Euclid Avenue, “Anyone can walk into the site… no questions asked.” People who need a kit outside of those hours can contact Lee Zuniga at 507-323-8100 or George Marin at 507-473-0376. In addition to handing out kits at the NAP, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors will also provide other support and treatment referrals as needed.

As a NAP, a group of volunteers will provide naloxone kits to people who come into the church during designated times, as well as fentanyl test strips. We thank the team of local leaders that formed to bring the NAP to the Albert Lea community. The NAP will be known as Manny’s Mission, named after Manny Chavez, an Albert Lea student who died from an overdose in late July.
