Stigma and shame can present immense barriers on the path to recovery. We’re hosting a free webinar on this topic, to help better understand these challenges, and foster a necessary dialogue on what we can do to end stigmas surrounding substance use. About the Webinar:

Shame is so pervasive in our culture that many of us have difficulty recognizing it. It expresses itself in a variety of ways that often have nothing to do with substance use. Stigma has a way of cozying up to shame, and often times this stigma comes less from the outside world and more from the way in which we view ourselves. The internal stigma: what we think we’re capable of, who we are, and how we view ourselves evolves slowly. Stigma is often the last thing to go.

About the Speaker:

Sammer Elkhateeb is a person in long-term recovery and a ferocious advocate for the rights of those marginalized by society: the homeless, addicted, or those suffering from mental illness; a believer in the process of recovery and each person’s ability to evolve and transform the way we view ourselves and our ability to impact the world around us. Sammer has a BA in Recovery Advocacy and Nonprofit Management and is currently pursuing a Masters of Advocacy and Political Leadership from Metropolitan State University.
