Thank you, Worthington!

On February 9th, we held our third H.O.P.E. Forum in Worthington, MN. The event brought together members of the Worthington community to learn about local resources and share experiences, with a focus on reducing stigma, promoting available services, and addressing barriers to the utilization of prevention and harm reduction strategies. The event also included an Overdose Response Training and attendees were able to receive a free naloxone kit.

The forum highlighted local resources and included presentations by regional experts and SRHN staff, representing a collaborative effort with local providers, law enforcement, partnered organizations and community members impacted by the opioid crisis.

SRHN Community Trainer, Emma Lysne, trains over 60 people on our Overdose Response Training.

We want to extend our deepest thank you to everyone who attended, tabled, spoke, and helped us to promote the event. We had a great turnout and are so grateful for all of the help we received.

Local news agency, The Globe, published an article about the event titled: “Overdose prevention advocates talk stigma during HOPE Forum in Worthington.”

In her presentation titled Stigma and Shame: Unpacking Stigma and Its Impact on SUD, Allie Carey, SRHN’s Director of Programs, says “Stigma is learned the same way we learn anything else. It’s a very naturally occurring component of culture. However, it is important for us to unlearn stigma where and when we can and the first step is recognizing its existence and the harm that it can cause.”
